"America Works Because We’re Working for America"
The purpose of National Payroll Week is to set aside five days each year to honor the men and women whose tax contributions support the American Dream, and the payroll professionals who are dedicated to processing those contributions. NPW was founded by the American Payroll Association in 1996.
Did you know:
Over 64.2% of the gross federal revenues of the United States are collected through the payroll process.
Taxes that are withheld from pay support important public projects such as public education, highways, parks, national defense and civil government.
This nearly $1.7 trillion in federal funds is withheld, deposited and reported each year by the tens of thousands of payroll professionals who work for US-based businesses.
Payroll professionals process the paychecks for over 156 million people in the US annually, ensuring that workers receive accurate pay and benefits.
Payroll professionals play a key role in carrying out government programs such as tax collection, enforcement of fair labor standards and child support obligations, and the administration of social security, unemployment insurance and Medicare taxes and benefits.

Why celebrate National Payroll Week:
The theme of National Payroll Week is "Working for America", reflecting a belief that taxpayers should be honored and encouraged to take pride in the role they play in ensuring the high quality of life in this country.
Former President Clinton on NPW: "This week provides a welcome opportunity to recognize our nation's payroll professionals for the vital role they play in maintaining the smooth functioning of our payroll tax system. As citizens and taxpayers, as employees and employers, your are contributing to America's continued strength and prosperity through your participation in the payroll tax withholding system."
Former Secretary of Health and Human Services Donna E. Shalala stated: "Your work truly makes a difference in many lives...Currently over 70% of child support is paid through withholding dollars that are helping children grow up with financial security...National Payroll Week is a fitting way to say "Thank You" for all you do and will be doing in the future. |
