Health Corner

By: Vy Hoang, Doctor of Chiropractic Chiro One Wellness Centers

Did you know that stress raises cortisol levels, the stress hormone, in your body?  Did you also know that increased levels of cortisol can act as a neurotoxin that can damage the nerves that supply information to your body and brain?  This could lead to problems such as obesity and memory loss.  The easiest way to relieve stress is to take deep cleansing breaths.  When times are tough and stress weighs you down, take a moment to inhale deeply and exhale all the way out for double the amount of time that you inhaled.  Not only will this help you calm your nerves, but you are bringing more oxygen to your brain.  This will allow you to think more clearly and be more relaxed and energized at the same time.

February 21st meeting- Spinning your Wheels on Compliance Issues!

Wheels have stopped spinning on Compliance issues for those that attended our February 21st meeting.   Michael O’Toole did an excellent job of presenting Auditing your Payroll for Compliance.  During his session he discussed auditing Payroll records, Taxation issues, Analysis of earnings and deductions, Wage and Hour issues, Reconciliations and Record keeping.   Payroll processes were examined for each area to ensure your company’s compliance.

The meeting started with a net working event with health tips & chocolate for everyone.  Emily Rook and Linda Herman were the winners of Walgreens gift cards for this event.  Also, as part of this meeting raffle tickets could be bought with all the funds going to our ‘Relay for Life Event’ on June 20.    Many items were raffled off included APA reference books donated by Emily Rook.   Thank you Emily!    A special thank you to Kronos for sponsoring this meeting.  Your new location is outstanding.

Be sure to sign up for our next meeting on June 5th, A Spin on the Payroll Basics Wheel with Calculations.

Interesting Food Traits

A sliced Carrot looks like the human eye the pupil, iris and radiating lines look just like the human eye...and YES science now shows that carrots greatly enhance blood flow to and function of the eyes.

A Tomato has four chambers and is red. The heart is red and has four chambers. All of the research shows tomatoes are indeed pure heart and blood food.
Grapes hang in a cluster that has the shape of the heart. Each grape looks like a blood cell and all of the research today shows that grapes are also profound heart and blood vitalizing food

A Walnut looks like a little brain, a left and right hemisphere, upper cerebrums and lower cerebellums. Even the wrinkles or folds are on the nut just like the neo-cortex. We now know that walnuts help develop over 3 dozen neuron-transmitters for brain function.

Kidney Beans actually heal and help maintain kidney function and yes, they look exactly like the human kidneys.

Celery, Bok Choy, Rhubarb and more look just like bones. These foods specifically target bone strength. Bones are 23% sodium and these foods are 23% sodium. If you don't have enough sodium in your diet the body pulls it from the bones, making them weak. These foods replenish the skeletal needs of the body.

Eggplant, Avocadoes and Pears target the health and function of the womb and cervix of the female - they look just like these organs. Today's research shows that when a woman eats 1 avocado a week, it balances hormones, sheds unwanted birth weight and prevents cervical cancers. And how profound is this? .... It takes exactly 9 months to grow an avocado from blossom to ripened fruit. There are over 14,000 photolytic chemical cons tituents of nutrition in each one of these foods (modern science has only studied and named about 141 of them).

Figs are full of seeds and hang in twos when they grow. Figs increase the motility of male sperm and increase the numbers of Sperm a S well to overcome male sterility.

Sweet Potatoes look like the pancreas and actually balance the glycemic index of diabetics.

Olives assist the health and function of the ovaries

Grapefruits, Oranges, and Other Citrus fruits look just like the mammary glands of the female and actually assist the health of the breasts and the movement of lymph in and out of the breasts.

Onions look like body cells. Today's research shows that onions help clear waste materials from all of the body cells they even produce tears which wash the epithelial layers of the eyes.

Relay For Life 2008

Current Team Total: $525.00

Once again the Chicago Chapter will be participating in the Relay for Life.  We need you to join us in our efforts to find a cure.  Join “Team CAPA”.  Last year we had 9 team members who raised $3500.00.  We would like to increase that amount to $5000.00 this year.  We need you to help and be a part of the challenge.  The Relay is June 20th at 6PM and ends at 6A.M. the following morning. It will be held at the Oak Brook Park District.

We had family members come and join us for part of the evening, walk the track with and for us. Chris O’Hara’s niece made a McDonald’s run for those who were in need of a caffeine fix.  Pat Gaughan came and supported us as we walked late into the night.  The members of Team CAPA formed a bond. We got the chance to get to know each other better.  Relay is a life changing event.  Please join us.

If you are not able to come to the Relay, you can support us by making a donation to the team and purchasing Luminaries for your loved ones whose lives have been touched by cancer.

Each year, across the nation, one event brings together entire communities to take part in the fight against cancer. That event is the American Cancer Society Relay For Life®. It’s a time and place where people come to celebrate those who have survived cancer, remember those we’ve lost, and fight back against a disease that touches too many lives.

Won’t you join us this year and be a part of Relay?

It’s not just an opportunity to celebrate, remember, and fight back your involvement will help the American Cancer Society work toward a mission of eliminating cancer as major health issue and will support much-needed services in your community. Thanks in part to the donations from Relay For Life and other events, the Society is saving lives, helping those touched by cancer, and empowering people to fight this disease all over the world.

If you want to be a part of the fight against cancer, sign up today for the Relay For Life of Oak Brook/Hinsdale/Burr Ridge.
